Phillip Pennington was promoted to the position of Fire-Rescue Chief for the City of Naples Fire-Rescue Department on Monday, June 19, 2023. Chief Pennington has worked in the fire-rescue profession for 35 years, serving the City of Naples since September 2015 in various roles including Deputy Chief of Emergency Management and Interim Fire-Rescue Chief. Prior to his arrival in Naples, he served 21 years with the City of Fort Lauderdale Fire Department and 6 years with Broward County Emergency Medical Services.
City Manager, Jay Boodheshwar, said “I am extremely pleased to appoint Mr. Pennington to the position of Fire-Rescue Chief. He has served the City of Naples with honor and dedication. His experience in Naples, coupled with his experiences in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County have prepared him well to lead our Fire-Rescue Department.”
Over the course of his career, Chief Pennington has served in a variety of positions including Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, Firefighter, Driver-Engineer, Field Training Officer, Operations Lieutenant, EMS Bureau Captain, Operations Captain, Acting Operations Field EMS Supervisor, Acting Operations Battalion Chief, Battalion Chief of Training, and Deputy Chief of Emergency Management. He is also a former instructor for Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics in both the clinical and classroom settings working for the Medical Arts Training Center and Broward State College.
Fire Chief Pennington graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership from Palm Beach Atlantic University. He was also named Outstanding Graduate for the MacArthur School of Leadership at Palm Beach Atlantic University.
