In our last update on this subject, we communicated that the first 700 linear feet of damaged Seawall was replaced along with the sidewalk that runs parallel to the Seawall and the parking lot. New landscaping was also installed.
This area is at the north end of the Tropics Condominium, located in the 4700 block of GSBN, and runs North for 700 feet.
A consulting Engineering firm was hired a year ago to determine the life expectancy of the remaining approximately 2500 linear feet of Seawall. This took longer than anticipated due to the workload of the Engineering firm due to hurricanes Helene and Milton.
The report is now in, and this is what we know.
The sections referred to as out lots A & B are located South of the Village Shops on Venetian Bay to the end of the sidewalk along the Venetian Bay Yacht Club South.
This section will be replaced next since its useful life has expired according to the engineering report.
The section South of the Tropics Condominium to the Venetian Bay Yacht Club North has been determined to have approximately ten more years of useful life before it requires replacement. The Engineering Consultant suggests that this section be evaluated annually, and any necessary repairs or maintenance should be made if needed on a year-to-year basis.
This section will require replacement within ten years, which was determined after the evaluation was completed.
Bids will soon be requested for out lots A & B, and after being reviewed, they will likely be presented to City Council in a June City Council Meeting for approval prior to summer recess.
Design work should be completed in the fourth quarter of this year with construction commencing the first quarter of 2026.
We will keep you posted on all future updates regarding this important project.
